Ann Maria Freeth was the ninth child of Samuel Freeth & Catherine Wilton born December 8th,1877 at Smethwick, Staffs.
Ann Maria was at home at 90 Brasshouse Lane in 1881with her parents, 3 brothers & a sister.
In 1891 Ann (known as Maria) was still at the same address with her parents & older sister.
The family appear to have moved to Nottinghamshire where Maria’s mother died in 1898.
In 1901 Maria & her father were living at Hamilton Rd, Sutton in Ashfield, Notts.
Maria married John William Shaw, a miner, on December 20th, 1902, at St Mary Magdalene, Sutton in Ashfield, Notts. Witnesses at the wedding were Lucy & George Shaw. John was born January 31st, 1871 at Sutton in Ashfield, Notts, the son of Mary & John Shaw, a framework knitter.
In 1911 Ann Maria & John were living at 37 Slater St, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts & John was described as a hosiery maker (Kidders Patent). They had a daughter Catherine (7) but it was noted on the census that one child had died.
Daughter Catherine married Arnold Glover in 1929 & in 1939 they were living at the White Swan, Sutton-in-Ashfield where Arnold was the licensee.
The 1939 register shows Ann Maria & John living at 16 High Pavement, Sutton in Ashfield & John was now a retired hosiery worker.
Ann died in Oct-December 1948 in Basford, Notts.
